Freedom Guide Dogs is proud to serve those who are blind or visually impaired, are at least 16 years of age and reside along the East Coast. We ask that you have completed Formal Orientation & Mobility Training and walk at least a mile daily. We are honored to serve these individuals and provide them with freedom at no cost to the recipient. All of Freedom’s Guide Dogs are placed with those in need free of charge and through our distinctive program, Hometown Training.
Here are what some of our clients have to say
It is because of Kissable Katie and her Freedom Guide Dog Training that I am able to leave my house, attend cancer treatment, shop for myself, and live in my own home. As well as be a productive person, participate in a shooting sport, volunteer with a veterans organization, and give back to my community.
Kissable Katie has given me a better quality of life, and more reason to love, and be independent.
Thank you for my Angel, Kissable Katie

For the past 53 years I have enjoyed the independence and safe travel a guide dog can provide. My last two guides have been from Freedom. Such beautiful dogs and so well trained. When I lost Braelyn, my first Freedom Guide, in January I decided she would be my last dog as I was 80 years old. The staff at Freedom knew it wasn’t time for me to be without a guide dog. They certainly knew best. Opus has been with me for nearly three months. He’s perfect for me at this time in my life. He’s a marvelous working dog and a joy and the source of much laughter. Keeping up with Opus makes me feel younger every day.

Freedom has changed my life
I had two previous guide dogs from other schools and they did not work out. I was looking for home training and knew about Freedom Guide Dogs. I applied and I was accepted within a few months, super-fast. Leo my guide dog is awesome, and we make a great partnership. Freedom has changed my life as I have an awesome dog and feel more independent than I was before. Thank you Freedom!

I received my Guide Dog Teddy on Monday Nov.28, 2016 at 3:30 We met that day. Then the next day we started to train together. Teddy is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I want to thank Freedom Guide Dogs for bringing Teddy to me. Teddy and I go to church every Sunday morning with my Mom & Dad and Teddy loves to go to the stores and shop.

I am proud to own a beautiful black lab named Ume. We’ve been together since 2016.
She has been a great dog. We’ve taken walks in downtown Newington, CT, and beyond.
Ume means the world to me. She watches traffic very well and makes sure every walk is safe.
She even saved my life a few times. One time, we were crossing. Suddenly, she stopped on a dime. A truck was coming and we stopped short. After I waved the truck on, we went on our way.

I have been blessed with my new Freedom guide dog Uno. I can not say enough about Freedom Guide dog, the puppy raiser family did an awesome job preparing the puppies to be ready for training to be confident guides and the trainers know their stuff! I am especially thankful for the great job that Dave did in instructing me to work as partners with Uno. Uno is always ready to work. Uno has been on walks on sidewalks and country walk we have been in the hospital to get my blood work, in Doctor’s office, Church and lots of stores. Uno has given me the independence and freedom that I love. He is not just a guide dog but a friend. I am off the tread mill and out in the World. Thank you for all the love and time the whole team puts in to train faithful Freedom Guide Dogs!
